April

Summer is finally on the way!

As we sit in the office enjoying the lovely weather we are very excited to announce that following our head chef Craig Gibbs' success at the Scottish Culinary Championships, he has now been nominated for the best Banqueting and Events Chef of the year for the CIS Excellence Awards - it's the little things like the recognition for our efforts that make our jobs so worthwhile.

Following the competition, Craig held a special evening meal at our Galashiels based restaurant, Ochiltrees, where he re-created his award winning menu for one night only for our guests. Everyone was thrilled with the menu and were delighted in particular with his main - the Saddle of Border Roe Deer with glazed figs, beetroot and hazelnuts with a Grand Veneur sauce.

The evening was a great hit and enjoyed by all in attendance so much so that it has been decided to make the event a monthly occurrence - our next night will be held on the 22nd of May, which happens to be the night after the competition. The next menu will be:-

The beginning of Spring brings with it the opening of our Tearooms for the summer period. And although our main lady, Gill Orde, is meant to be nearing a stage of retirement in her very busy life she still refuses to give up and is still working here, there and everywhere. Currently she can be found buzzing around and helping out at our Harestanes Tearoom & Visitor Centre making sure everything is in perfect working order - feel free to pop in for a visit should anyone want to keep her company!
