Magical MarqueesMarquees are magical and hosting a summer event for friends and family in a “party tent” is really special. If you are lucky enough to have the space or have a suitable venue then placing a marquee in lush green surroundings can create the most wonderful of settings for a special occasion.
Over the past 39 years of our company history we have helped host many a magical marquee event. Here are some of our key tips to help you plan your summer marquee party.

Choose your style of marqueeChoosing your marquee style wisely is really important, the style isn’t just about the look you like best, sometimes it’s about which marquee design and structure works best with the location and setting.
You’ll need to consider what sort of ground the style of marquee is suitable for, do you want windows and doors and whether there are going to be any issues with the seating and flooring you want to use. Marquees have moved on a long way from three poles and a plain white tarpaulin. Last year we catered for a wedding where the marquee was built to surround a garden pond!
Don’t Struggle – Hire an event planner or get us to do it for you.Planning a marquee event yourself can be hard work, there’s al lot of logistics to consider, but you don’t have to struggle. You can hire an event planner or even use our own in house planning service. If you were to get ma

rried in a venue, there may already be a venue manager to take care of things for you. However for a private event we often work closely with event planners such as Lyndsey at
Get Knotted or Hillary at
Black Events also.
Decorating and arranging your layoutStart off with the theme, it might be vintage, garden party, glitz and glamour or simply a colour; the theme is up to you, then the décor can reflect the theme. Your choice of furniture and fittings for the marquee should reflect the theme and many of the marquee firms supply the equipment too. We also recommend suppliers like
Albert Hall Dance Floors,
HoplerWood Furniture and
Carnival Chaos for getting the whole picture just right. Think about how you want to use your ceiling space and introduce your colours to create a truly magical effect. For lighting,
Tower Productions and
Arkwright Group are experts in their field!
Consult the professionals
The Orde Food Company have provided the catering and bar services for many a marquee event. One key tip we would recommend is to consult each of the professionals you are working with to find out their specific requirements. We need to know that the quality equipment we hire from Belinda at
Wares Cater Hire is getting the juice it needs. You will almost definitely need to hire a generator.
Consider parkingParking for your guests and suppliers is really important too. Ensure there are places for guests to park or if not possible make arrangements for a bus and drop off place and let people know these alternative parking arrangements.
Consider too having suitable parking and drop off points for your suppliers, as caterers we do need to be able to access the catering tent/serving area of your marquee.
W.C.Naturally you need to make sure you have nice loos for your guests. In most cases this involves hiring mobile toilets, these generally come very well equipped, but you may want to add extra toiletries for that personal touch. We recommend luxury suppliers like Jamie from
Sitting Pretty or Debbie from
BordaLoo.
Access for suppliers and equipmentYou need to make sure your suppliers have access to the marquee and the surrounding areas. Some of your ideas for a marquee might be available, but not do-able depending on where your marquee is going to be placed. As with any event consult the professional suppliers you are working with, we all have years of experience and are determined to make sure your event a success from start to finish.
Marquee Suppliers Over the years we have worked with a number of fantastic marquee companies and we are delighted to share some of them with you. We can assure you they can all bring to you that truly magical marquee ideal for your next special event.
