As you know we cater for a number of weddings each year and our role as event and wedding caterer does involve supporting and giving advice on other elements of the event. So we thought we would share a few of the current and future ‘wedding trends’ that we have found.
Personalisation is becoming more and more crucial as couples realise their wedding is a celebration of their life together and uniquely their own. Very much on trend is personalisation of everything from more monogrammed everything directional signs, table and place names, menus or special food and local dishes that was part of their time together.
Rustic Chic - The rustic wedding trend is also here to stay, but moving into 2017 wedding planning we are seeing a more glamorous take on the theme. Expect to see it all in the details, like chandeliers in barns or china on a natural wooden table. Barns and non-traditional venues remain a strong venue trend, allowing couples to introduce their own take on rustic such as filled with branches, lanterns, and nature-inspired décor, are more popular than ever. In 2016 wooden centre piece plinths and decorated jars are trending, it is predicted in 2017 the natural and personal theme will be bigger than ever.
Metallics - Glitzy glamour of old Hollywood and the 1920s but with a modern contemporary twist. Gold room décor, shimmering tiered wedding cakes, copper lanterns at outdoor receptions and Illuminated lettering – the theme can be carried right through to shimmer paper and envelopes for the invitations, menus and place names.
Seating – There is a move away from a wedding breakfast seating layout such as large round tables, which has a tendency to feel too much like a corporate event, so the trend for either very long, rectangular tables or a mix of long tables surrounded by smaller square and round tables — all for a more intimate vibe. Lounge areas, complete with comfortable seating options, remain a popular especially for marquee and large barn events.
Just picked garden flowers - Arrangements that feature what’s in season and local are increasingly popular. Wild, freshly picked flowers and herbs to decorate their tables.
Flowers not necessary - Potted trees, succulents, ferns, lavender sprigs and decorative leaves are popular and the center pieces are becoming more themed too as well illustrated here the ‘cycle theme with bay trees’ was a recent wedding we catered for. You will also see other trends such as bare branches with crepe-paper flowers or sparkly jewels.
A Focus on Food - As we can testify, good food can make a lovely wedding completely incredible. More and more of us are fond of fine food so providing an amazing culinary experience for your guests at the wedding has been big in 2016 and we predict will also be in 2017.
Food stations and buffets are still on trend and still popular is family service at the table, antipasti platters for local delicacies, individual roasts for each table with serving dishes of accompaniments, locally sourced is also almost essential. Ice cream carts such as Giacopazzis in Eyemouth remain on trend and evening buffets might even take on a new meaning, gourmet food stations, locally sourced produce and cheese and not to be outdone, local ales and signature drinks.
Naked cakes – Either unfrosted or partially frosted and simply decorated with fresh local berries or fresh flowers, are trending both relaxed receptions and more formal affairs.
Going Social – already trending is the wedding hashtag, photobooth and a selfie station! Couples are also looking for casual and fun wedding shots which tell the whole story of the day, right down to the ‘thank you’ card shot.
Pets in Weddings - Having pets participate in the wedding in some way is going to continue to be a hot trend, but with a twist, we might see more pets in things like save the dates or engagement announcements as well in the actual ceremony.
We have noticed in writing this summary that increasingly there is an importance if fresh locally sourced food and for this we are naturally delighted especially given our role as wedding caterers. With the wonderful selection we have on our door step we will continue to deliver this for all our future weddings and events.
We have also created a ‘Wedding Trends’ board on our Pinterest account which we will continually add to, so do have a look, follow and share.
